Discover the beauty of the Northwest! Known as the
Gem State, Idaho boasts of unique, vast open space,
and a variety of natural beauty to experience.
Whether you were born and raised here, or have never stepped foot in Idaho, there is something for everyone.
As part of the Great Basin Desert, Idaho's largest terrain is occupied by the Rocky Mountains, which
provide much of the mineral output giving Idaho its nickname. In the southern part of the state, lava flows helped
form a region that is largely treeless, known as the Snake River Plain. This area follows the Snake River and covers
strips of land that range in size from 20 to 40 miles wide. The third major area is the Basin and Range
Region which has grassy plains and basins, and the Rocky Mountains to the east.
